Hi all! Long time no see right? I’m still trying to grasp that time management skill where you can kill it at work, at home, with your friends AND run a successful blog 😉 But hey, I’m doing my best and that’s what counts! Today I want to talk a little about something that I thought was just me, but I recently (a year ago, I guess) found out that A LOT of people go through.
Hi friends! Happy Sunday! This week I am introducing an ongoing series called the weekly recap! Anything that caught my attention this week, any great shopping finds and things stuck in my head will be featured weekly! Grab a glass of wine and let’s jump in.
One // Shopping
I may or may not have shopped a *little* more than I generally would have this week, but there’s always next week right?
Austin recently installed this light dimmer switch and I’m obsessed with the result. It controls the sconces above our fireplace and we use it with these light bulbs. It’s crazy what a difference it makes! I have no idea how this was installed (Austin is basically a talented handyman) so maybe YouTube it!
Three // Beauty
I have been loving this affordable setting powder by NYX. It’s pretty much comparable to any high end pressed setting powder that I’ve tried. Earlier in December I splurged and got the full-size version of this oil. I had the trial size, and it really is one of the only things that deeply hydrates my skin in the winter. I highly recommend this if you have severe dry skin! Not sponsored, I just love it that much!
Four // Amazon Finds!
Lately, Amazon has been my BFF so I figured I would share what I’ve gotten recently. This scalp massager is the best thing ever. It instantly relaxes you and is under $6 so basically a no brainer.
I’ve been hearing a lot about silk pillowcases and all of the amazing benefits, a popular one I’ve seen is around $100 but I found this one for a fraction of the price and it feels so luxurious! I can tell my hair is less frizzy and I don’t have those sleep lines on my face in the morning.
Let me know if y’all have any great finds or updates from the week below!
Waking up to a winter wonderland is always so nostalgic. It reminds me of when I was a little kid and would get so excited for snow! Well the adult version is not having to go to work which is just as exciting!!
Can anyone else believe we are starting 2018? I can’t be the only one that still thinks 2007 was a few years ago?! This year has absolutely flown by. I swear I say that every year but this has been especially true this go around. 2017 was full of so many milestones for me and amazing experiences! Keep reading to see what the highlights of the year were!
We bought a house: All of the praise hands!! My fiancé, Austin and I have been renting together for the past 4 years so we have seen the pros and cons to renting and felt we were more than ready to start investing in our own home. This brings us to our bungalow dream home! After working with a realtor (Shoutout to Ashley White) we were able to snag the perfect home for us! It’s a 1928 bungalow that has so much character, we fell in love immediately. We actually closed on our home a few days after my 23rd birthday! This is by far one of my proudest achievements, and we couldn’t have done it without working hard and saving. Be on the lookout for more upcoming home decor posts!
Travel: While I wasn’t able to get away to too many places this year due to hectic schedules and work, I was fortunate enough to take a couple of fun trips!
Asheville pt. 1: We went to Asheville in January for a winter getaway and it was amazing. The city is so artsy and full of things we love to do together. We explored more breweries than I can count on 1 hand and shopped downtown most days. The Anthropologie store is beautiful, this location has so much furniture and bedding *insert heart eye emoji*.
This wall is so cool and inspirational! It’s about half a block long, and just has spaces that say “Before I die I want to:______” that you can fill in with chalk! I personally wrote “to adopt all of the dogs” 🙂
Asheville pt. 2: I came back to Asheville a few months later in June to visit the Biltmore Estate and Winery! I’ve been a few times now and it’s always breathtaking. We stayed on the estate at The Village Hotel and it was so nice. The hotel had a modern farmhouse theme, and our room came with sliding barn doors!
Cape Hatteras: Since I didn’t take a typical week during the summer to head to the beach, we went in late September to Cape Hatteras for my first trip to the Outer Banks. We found the cutest Airbnb to stay in via a recommendation from our friends (check out Lauren’s blog! ) It literally felt like I was in a Nicholas Sparks book. Sadly, we weren’t even there for 24 hours before we had to evacuate for Hurricane Irma. Before we headed down, Irma was tracking to go into South Florida and then turn back into the Atlantic Ocean away from land, but she made a turn (of course) back towards land, and began moving towards the Outer Banks. The day we evacuated you could tell a strong storm was coming. The waves were extremely high and the surf was rough. We were really wanting to ride it out, but the mandatory evacuation was issued around noon the day after we arrived. Shelly Island definitely was not visible the second day!
Durham: After taking time off from work and having days set aside for the above vacation, we decided to take a few days in Durham on our way back to Winston-Salem, instead of heading straight home from the beach. We ate, drank, and explored all around Downtown Durham.
Boone: Every October my fiancé takes us to Boone, NC (where we both graduated from Appalachian State, go Apps!!) to go to our favorite pumpkin patch! I love getting our pumpkins from here and spending the day in Blowing Rock. It has turned into one of my favorite traditions that I look forward to every year.
Wedding Planning: Another huge milestone was deciding on a wedding date for 2018! After getting engaged in April of 2016, my fiancé and I took time to settle down after graduating. This is such an exciting time and I really want to soak it all in! We also just celebrated our 10 year anniversary on New Years Eve!! Comment below if you have any must know wedding planning tips for me!
Exercise: Committing to a nearby gym has been really fundamental to keeping my stress levels down. It’s hard sometimes to get motivated to actually go, but once I’m there it feels so good to just sweat it out! It’s really fun to just put in my headphones and forget about work, etc. for an hour. I have also been trying out a few supplements. Let me know below if you guys are interested in what I have been using, what I like/don’t like!
What I’ve Learned: I feel like this is the year I became an adult. I mean, legally I’ve been an adult for a while now but after starting a career, opening a 401k (!!), and buying a house- man I feel *old*. I am still trying to figure out exactly where I belong, but everyday I feel more like me, if that makes sense. I wish I could go back 10 years ago to 13 year old me and just say IT WILL BE OKAY!! Things have a tendency of falling into place, but things also don’t work if you don’t.
Work hard, and you will reap the benefits. I can’t reiterate that enough.
Making time for yourself is another thing that is so, so important. Doing something that makes your soul happy is what you need to prioritize in doing!
Give 100% in relationships. Whether it’s with your significant other, friends, or business. I’ve made amazing, quality friendships this year that have made such a difference in my life.
I am so excited to see what 2018 brings! Thank you so much for reading!
Bed / quilt is vintage / sled is vintage, similar here / pillow is old
When I did a recent poll on insta stories asking if you guys wanted to see outfits or home decor the overwhelming majority said home decor! We bought our house in May of this year so we are still settling in, but it has been so much fun decorating and curating our space!
I’m thinking I will do a separate post on the home buying process, as I know it can be very overwhelming!
I want to show you guys parts of our home and I believe a mini-series would be the best way to do it. Each week I will try to showcase different parts or rooms and show y’all what we’ve done and what we want to do (it never ends lol). This is our guest room, and I am so incredibly blessed to have a dedicated space for this! It’s so convenient to have when our friends and family come to stay.
We have been neglecting decorating this room for the longest but I’m using this as a motivation to try and finish it! For now, it’s still a relaxing space for guests to drop their bags at the end of the day.
I’m obsessed with the natural light this room gets towards the end of the day. These double windows frame the bed so well! We bought this bed right after we moved in and its exactly the style we were looking for and great quality. Hopefully this post encourages me to add a little bit more decor in here!
Let me know in the comments below if you enjoy this type of post and any requests/blog ideas you want to see!
My first blog post!! This J. Crew Collection Leather Jacket was probably my favorite splurge of 2017. It’s so versatile and can really add the extra edge to any outfit. Secretly, I always feel like a badass when I wear it. It’s so crazy how clothing can change how we feel. I paired the jacket with a Madewell bodysuit that is made of the softest material I own. We headed to Old Salem and braved the cold to take these! It was only 23 degrees with a windchill of about 10 degrees!
These jeans are high waisted and hold you in in all the right places! They were produced in Greensboro, NC at the White Oak Cone Denim plant which sadly was just shut down a few days ago. It was a staple in Greensboro, opening their doors in 1905! Learn more about the historic plant here.
Last but not least, these booties are the best. They are so comfortable and I believe every girl needs a basic black pair. The current pair I have is sold out but I have linked a similar pair. Thank you to everyone who has supported me thus fair! Cheers to 2018!
