There’s nothing worse than opening up the giant boxes filled to the brim with heavy coats and bulky boots, only to find that nothing fits, or worse, nothing is in style anymore!!!! Don’t worry! I’ve come to save the day by giving you plenty of fall outfit ideas with clickable links to the outfit pieces.
Take a deep breath, close that box, and scroll for some retail therapy 😉
Leather Pants and Long City Coat
As a woman in the early stages of her twenties, I have a few key pieces of clothing that I like to collect when I see a good deal. These are LONG CITY COATS They’re expensive, yes, but they’re so worth it!! It’s as if you take a blazer, lengthen it, and make it actually cozy! Long coats like these are perfect for fall and winter weather. They also go with a lot of outfits, no matter the occasion. The coats I linked above are perfect starters, but a nice grey or black would be perfect too!
The LEATHER PANT trend that’s been circling around honestly has me in a chokehold… the good kind. In my closet, I have a pair of black and brown (linked above) leather pants that fit me perfect! The fun things about leather is that time and time again, they remain versatile. You can dress up a pair of leather pants or throw on a hoodie, sneakers and hit up the mall. It’s definitely a trend I never thought I’d participate in, that’s for sure, but I wouldn’t turn back time if I could.
Puffer Coat and Chunky Scarf
Now here’s the thing, I don’t care if you live in a climate that never gets below 60 degrees in the fall/winter months, you have to keep a PUFFER COAT in your wardrobe. It’s perfect for any simple outing that doesn’t require a giant coat. It’s also super cute and comes in a million colors now that they’re more popular! Obviously the neutrals are where we want to stay for ‘staples’ but I’ve seen iridescent puffers before… I have an oversized black one, a nicer plum color, and a cropped tan one for a more casual fit! I linked two puffers above, one is more expensive than the other, but both are super cute and just like the outfit in the pic!!
This whole outfit is a vibe, but what I love is that she added a chunky, knit scarf in the mix. This is like the cherry on top for a fall outfit! Scarves have become so underrated in the past few years and I still have all of my chunky scarves from middle school. Yikes! Anyways, a simple, neutral scarf is always trustworthy to have in your closet. Some mornings it stays super cold and warms up over the middle of the day, so this is why a scarf can be the right choice for an outfit in fall! Easy to take off and carry if need be, or leave on as an accessory to an already fashionable outfit!
Sweater Vest and White Button Up
I doubt I was alive when sweater vests were first labeled “chic” but I’m glad I’m alive to see it make its rounds again! I find the SWEATER VEST trend to be so classy somehow. We’ve decided to create this elegance around a sweater with no arms. It blows my mind! Because of how chic this clothing item has become, it’s a staple piece! Packing for a trip to the ski lodge? Pack your sweater vest. Going to lunch with your in-laws? Wear your sweater vest. You just can’t go wrong when you wear a sweater vest anymore.
This brings me to the question: “Well what should I wear under my sweater vest?” There are two acceptable answers, one of them we will discuss later, and the other in a button up. Is it button up or button down? I have no clue hahaha. A white collared shirt with buttons is a key piece in your wardrobe. If you don’t listen to a single thing I say in this entire post except this, you’ll be buying the right item! Button ups are popular across all genders and have become a huge staple in a woman’s work wardrobe as well as everyday wardrobe. These aren’t just for men anymore 😉 Check out the one I linked above!
Sherpa Teddy Jacket and Classic Turtleneck
Does anyone else remember the way PINK had us all in a chokehold (not the good kind) over the sherpa jackets? I probably had 3 or 4 in my closet as a high schooler. Don’t judge me. Fashion evolves and thank God for that commodity! The TEDDY JACKET, Sherpa, or Shacket, whatever you want to call it, has now become a Fall staple for every fashion-girly out here. If you buy the right colors and pair them with a simple outfit, they can really make any outfit turn into a fall fit really quick. There’s nothing more “Fall, y’all” in my opinion than this clothing item.
We’ve made it to the other option for what to wear under your sweater vest. It is a TURTLENECK!! Without this bad boy, I don’t know if my preppy phase in high school would’ve made it out alive. Little did I know, I was building up a stash of them for me to continue wearing even after I graduated college. These simple, affordable (for the most part), classic fashion pieces are essential to your wardrobe.
Also, the link to the turtleneck above is normally on some sort of sale from their site so stay on the lookout! Grab a few colors, a black, cream, and navy to start! If you’re feeling bold, throw in an olive green, brown, or maroon!
Go-To Sling Bag and Platform Boots
I had so much trouble linking an affordable SLING BAG but I found a holy grail one from Target!!! If you’re on the go a lot, don’t like carrying a purse around, or just don’t want to buy an expensive bag to then turn around and get it dirty, just buy this bag! It pairs well with everything and black is one of the signature “Fall” colors! Grabbing a sling bag or bum bag for Fall is such a great choice and you won’t regret it! But if you do regret it, you can always give them to me and I’ll gladly take them off your hands 😉
Last but certainly not least for this topic on fall wardrobe staples you must get for fall, are solid PLATFORM BOOTS. If you don’t already own a pair of boots like the ones above, I would be shocked, but in case you don’t, I’ll give you some context on why I like them a lot for fall. Any sort of platform boot is going to make you appear taller and most of the time jeans will fit you better if they have more room at the bottom. A sold color, like black, goes with everything and can be dressed up or down in almost any scenario. The third reason is that they are so stinking cute and I love bringing them out in the fall months because I always get compliments on them!
Thank you for making it to the end!!! I hope you enjoyed and please leave a comment below about which outfit was your favorite and how many of these fall must-haves you actually own! Love you so much <3
